The administration and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State have affirmed their commitment to the guideline of zoning in the allotment of elective positions, following proposals from an ad hoc committee.
The party had previously introduced the Ad Hoc Zoning Committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Mr. Afeez Bolaji Repete serving as Secretary.
The committee was tasked with ensuring a fair and consensus-driven distribution of positions across all 33 local government areas of the state.
In a statement released by the state secretariat and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, the APC unveiled that the zoning recommendations were officially adopted at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday.
The statement commended party members for their dedication to peace and unity, urging them to maintain this spirit as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
“In line with directives from the national leadership of our great Party, stakeholders have agreed to continue the consensus approach that successfully guided the Ward and Local Government Area Congresses. This methodology will now guide the State Congress,” the statement read.
It clarified that the Ibikunle-led Ad Hoc Zoning Committee has commenced its assignment, and within hours, each local government chapter will be informed of the position designated for its representative on the State Executive Committee.
Once notified, stakeholders in all 33 local government areas are expected to convene and submit nominees for mandatory screening by a special team from Abuja.
The statement emphasized the significance of selecting the most qualified candidates, noting, “We encourage leaders across all local government areas to ensure that only the best candidates are considered for nomination, as the strength of our Party depends on the quality of its leadership.”
The party communicated certainty that both the designation and screening works would be completed on plan, ahead of the disclosure and introduction of the unused State Official Committee, set to hold this Tuesday at the main bowl of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium.
The articulation called on all partners inside Oyo APC to collaborate for the overall victory of the party, guaranteeing that this year’s congresses yield positive and broadly acknowledged results.
