President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other governors from the South-West region, are set to officially open the recently renovated and redeveloped Premier Hotel in Ibadan on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The hotel, which is 62 years old and located on Mokola Hill, has been fully renovated by Odu’a Investment Company.
This project is part of efforts to modernize it as a top hospitality spot.
President Tinubu will be the Special Guest of Honour at the event, while Governor Makinde will be the Chief Host.
Lagos State Governor and chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be the Lead Host. Other hosts include Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

Premier Hotel has a big place in Nigeria’s history since its independence.
It was started by the former Western Region Government through the Western Nigeria Development Corporation as part of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s development plans in the 1960s.
The hotel was officially opened in 1963 as the WNTV/WTBS Hotel.
It supported the Western Nigeria Television and Television Service and also provided good lodging for government officials, foreign guests, and business travelers.
At that time, it was one of the first modern high-rise hotels outside Lagos and represented the Western Region’s ambitions for development.
Over the years, the hotel became one of Ibadan’s most well-known buildings.
It has hosted many important people like presidents, governors, diplomats, and famous entertainers.
Later, the hotel changed its name from WNTV Hotel to Premier Hotel under the management of Odu’a Investment Company, which is the successor to the Western Nigeria Development Corporation.
