Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, known as Poco Lee, is currently being held in a UK prison and is expected to appear in a London court on September 15 for an alleged assault charge, according to Benjamin Kuti, known as the Oluomo of Derby, and founder of the Nigerian community in the UK.
Kuti shared this information in a conversation with our correspondent on Monday.
He said Poco Lee is scheduled to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10 am.
Kuti explained that he knows about this because he often attends court sessions and supports Nigerians who are dealing with legal issues in the UK.
“I can confirm the reports are true.
Poco Lee is in a UK prison on remand. His next court date is in the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” he said.
He explained that a plea hearing usually involves the accused either admitting guilt or stating not guilty.
Kuti also mentioned that he plans to attend the court proceedings as part of his support for the Nigerian community in the UK
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to make sure our fellow Nigerian gets the right support during this difficult time in his life,” said Kuti.
He added, “It’s important that we let the legal process run its course.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. His hearing is at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at exactly 10 am.”
Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK first appeared online on August 19.
However, early reports, not PUNCH Online, did not mention the identity of the person who made the claim, the details of the incident, or if official charges had been filed. Some reports also noted that UK police or a court had not yet independently confirmed the arrest.
