Melaye, who is a respected figure in the ADC in Kogi State, raised concerns about Adedeji’s appointment as Deputy Director of Fundraising for the campaign.
He argued that Adedeji’s role as head of the country’s revenue agency creates a conflict of interest because he would be involved in both collecting national revenue and supporting a political campaign.
He shared these comments in a video on his official X account.
Melaye confirmed that he is planning to go to court on Monday to challenge Adedeji’s involvement in the campaign council.
“As a lawyer, by the grace of God, on Monday, I’m going to court.
We have to test that,” he said.
He pointed out that, as a public servant, Adedeji is expected to follow public service ethics and rules.
Melaye questioned how someone in charge of collecting national revenue could also be involved in fundraising for a political campaign.
“If that is not a conflict of interest, I don’t know what else it would be,” he said.
He also expressed criticism towards President Tinubu for taking the lead in the APC’s 2027 campaign council, calling the setup unusual and “disgraceful.”
According to Melaye, it is the first time in history that a presidential candidate has also been the head of the campaign council for their own election.
He suggested that this shows a lack of trust in the party members and government officials to run the election effectively.
Melaye also criticized the size of the campaign council and questioned the reasoning behind its structure.
The APC published the list of members for the 2027 presidential campaign council on Saturday.
President Tinubu was named chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I, and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as Vice Chairman II.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named Secretary.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun was listed as Director of Fundraising, with Zacch Adedeji as Deputy Director of Fundraising.
Melaye has vowed to continue opposing Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
He said his legal action is part of his efforts to challenge what he considers to be irregularities in the administration and the campaign structure.
